The Fairgrounds Beyond the Fair!

The Fairgrounds is seeing extra traffic this week as people from all across the United States and around the world attend the World Pork Expo. The Iowa State Fairgrounds has made a great location for this large event as producers, professionals, and guests come together to learn, network, and explore opportunities within the pork industry.

The Fairgrounds is home to events, such as the World Pork Expo, that are held around the calendar year when the Iowa State Fair is not happening. These include activities such as the National Junior High Finals Rodeo, the Goodguys Car Show, Iowa’s largest arts and crafts show, flea markets, livestock shows, dance competitions, and more. The Fairgrounds makes a great place for events like these due to our diverse spaces, large areas, and central location.

Our work at the Foundation exceeds beyond the 11 days of the Iowa State Fair as we help maintain the grounds so that the Fairgrounds can continue to be enjoyed year round. Recently, our renovation and improvement projects have included work done on the Sheep Barn, Pioneer Hall, and the Campgrounds, as well as adding additional handicap parking spaces and water bottle refill stations inside some of the buildings. These changes will be used and appreciated by many who are attending events beyond the State Fair each year.

Lucky for you, you can become a part of this mission today! The Foundation has various giving programs available including Back the Barns, Buy a Brick, Corndog Checkoff, Trees for the Fair, and more! In addition, we welcome volunteers each year during the Fair to work booths and help with various tasks. All of these giving opportunities allow us to raise money to work towards our ongoing renovation goals.
