Nominate your 2026 Iowan of the Day!

Every community has someone who goes above and beyond, a leader who makes Iowa a better place simply by caring for others. With the support of Cookies Food Products, the Blue Ribbon Foundation is currently accepting nominations for the chance to help recognize those heroes through the Iowan of the Day program.

Each year, ten outstanding Iowans are honored through the first ten days of the Iowa State Fair. They are celebrated for their accomplishments and dedication to their communities. Most importantly, they are celebrated for reflecting Iowa's true characteristics: integrity, dependability, a sense of community, and a strong work ethic.

Whether you know a teacher, farmer, volunteer, healthcare worker, or hometown hero, this is your chance to honor someone with true Iowa Spirit!

What to include in the nomination:

  • Be specific and concise
  • Share details that make their story stand out:
    • Community service and volunteer involvement
    • Leadership roles and activities
    • Education and career
    • Involvement with youth
    • Awards, honors, and special achievements
    • Family and personal impact stories

Additional materials, such as photos, newspaper articles, or letters of support, are encouraged to strengthen the nomination.

Each Iowan of the Day winner will receive:

  • $200 cash award
  • Accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown for the night
  • Four Iowa State Fair gate admission tickets
  • Four Grandstand show tickets for the night of their award day
  • Special use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart for their day at the Fair
  • Introduction and award presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley Stage
