Jumping Right In!

What a week it has been! With only a week here so far, I have jumped right into many projects regarding all things Fair! Being an avid Fairgoer, I thought I knew so much about the Fair already, but I was completely wrong! I knew all about the food, exhibits, and attractions, but not all of the hard work put in behind the scenes!

So far, I have jumped into projects from writing blog posts, creating magazine advertisements, and obtaining so much information about my position, the Foundation, and the Fair overall. It has been so much fun getting to know everyone and learning more about the Fair!

Currently, I am working on creating a magazine advertisement for the “Back the Barns” fundraising campaign that will be published in an issue of the Livestock Plus Inc. The Iowa State Fair livestock barns as a whole will undergo a major $25 million renovation starting this spring. This new fundraising campaign will support the project. Each structure will have dedicated restorations in areas that are vitally needed such as roofing, flooring, electrical, restrooms and tuckpointing. I have been able to gain a great understanding of this fundraising campaign while also being able to be creative in making the advertisement. Being able to gain new skills and strengthen the ones I possess has been a great experience so far!

I am grateful to be helping out with the campaign because I was a youth in agriculture who found their love for the industry by showing livestock at the Iowa State Fair. This campaign resonates close to my heart, and I am so glad to have the opportunity to advocate for helping youth in agriculture. The “Back the Barns” campaign is great as it pushes towards helping the youth in agriculture and the Fair. The past week has been so much fun getting to dive into the start of this internship! I am so excited to get started on more projects and preparation for the Fair! I cannot wait to see what the rest of the spring and summer hold!
